Description

Benomyl (C14H18N4O3, CAS 17804-35-2) — a free educational 3D molecular model for teachers and students, by MolGod.org. Symbols are engraved into every atom, so students read atoms by symbol, not by colour.

At its heart, Benomyl is built around two rings (one 5-membered and one 6-membered), fused along a shared edge, both aromatic. The model shows 40 bonds: 28 single, 2 double and 10 aromatic. Counting task: 14 C + 18 H + 4 N + 3 O gives 39 engraved spheres; can the class rebuild the formula C14H18N4O3 from the model alone? Ask the class to locate the carbamate group (-NH-CO-O-), the urea linkage (-N-CO-N-) and the pyridine-type ring nitrogen and name each one. It makes aromaticity and delocalised electrons, fused ring systems, heteroaromatic rings (nitrogen inside an aromatic ring), as well as the carbonyl group (C=O) easier to see. For intermolecular forces: the molecule has 2 hydrogen-bond donors and 4 acceptors (computed).

This model is part of the free MolGod.org collection of engraved molecules for education. Teachers: pair it with the MolGod.org record to connect the 3D shape with identifiers and data.

A ball-and-stick model of Benomyl with each element symbol recessed into its atom sphere, generated by MolGod.org from a PubChem-computed 3D conformer (not an experimental crystal structure); atomic coordinates and connectivity are unchanged. STL mesh: 493,622 triangles, closed (watertight) single solid. Coordinates in ångström (STL stores no unit) — scale the model deliberately in your slicer.

Names in other languages: bénomyl (fr); 苯菌灵 (zh).
