Briargrin — The Halloween Pumpkin Rose

🌹🎃 Briargrin — The Halloween Pumpkin Rose 🦇

📖 The Story

Every autumn, the gardener left one rose uncut.

“Something should stay to greet the winter,” she would say.

This year, however, the last rose had other plans.

She had watched the pumpkins being carried indoors. She had seen their crooked faces appear in windows, glowing warmly while the flowerbeds grew cold.

And she had noticed something rather unfair.

Nobody ever invited a rose to Halloween.

So, beneath the October moon, she began preparing a costume.

She curled her crimson petals into a pumpkin’s round cheeks. She practised a wicked little grin until it stretched from one side of her blossom to the other. Three bats, delighted by the idea, settled along her twisting stem and spread their wings where ordinary leaves should have been.

By morning, the gardener found her waiting beside the path.

A rose with a pumpkin’s smile.

The gardener laughed, carried her inside, and placed a little light behind her face.

That evening, Briargrin finally watched Halloween from the warm side of the window.

And when someone complimented the unusual pumpkin, three tiny voices rustled indignantly along her stem.

“She’s a rose, actually.”
