First Layer Test – Circle
Improve your 3D printer's first layer with the First Layer Test – Circle!
This simple calibration model uses circular patterns to help you evaluate first-layer adhesion, extrusion consistency, and Z-offset settings.
Unlike traditional square calibration tests, circular shapes allow you to inspect how consistently your printer lays down filament along curved paths.
Features
- Circular first-layer calibration patterns
- Helps identify uneven extrusion and adhesion problems
- Useful for checking Z-offset and first-layer consistency
- Quick and easy to print
- Low filament consumption
- No supports required
- Suitable for most FDM 3D printers
Recommended Print Settings
- Nozzle: 0.4 mm
- Layer Height: 0.20 mm
- Material: PLA or PETG
- First Layer Speed: 20–30 mm/s
- Supports: Disabled
- Raft: Disabled
- Ironing: Disabled
How to Read the Results
Perfect First Layer: Smooth, consistent circular patterns with well-connected extrusion lines.
Gaps Between Lines: May indicate insufficient first-layer squish or under-extrusion.
Rough or Raised Surfaces: May indicate excessive first-layer squish or over-extrusion.
Poor Adhesion Around Curves: Check bed cleanliness, Z-offset, temperature, and first-layer speed.
Inconsistent Circular Patterns: May indicate uneven extrusion or motion-related issues.
Why Use This Test?
A reliable first layer is essential for successful 3D printing.
The First Layer Test – Circle provides a quick way to inspect curved extrusion paths and identify potential printing problems before starting larger projects.
