First Layer Test – Full Bed
Check your entire build plate with the First Layer Test – Full Bed!
This practical calibration model is designed to help you evaluate first-layer consistency across a larger area of your 3D printer's build plate.
By testing multiple areas across the bed, you can identify uneven extrusion, adhesion problems, and potential bed leveling or Z-offset issues before starting larger prints.
Features
- Distributed first-layer calibration pattern
- Tests multiple areas across the build plate
- Helps identify uneven bed leveling and adhesion
- Easy to inspect and compare different regions
- Low filament consumption compared to a fully filled bed
- No supports required
- Suitable for FDM 3D printers
Recommended Print Settings
- Nozzle: 0.4 mm
- Layer Height: 0.20 mm
- Material: PLA or PETG
- First Layer Speed: 20–30 mm/s
- Supports: Disabled
- Raft: Disabled
- Ironing: Disabled
How to Read the Results
Perfect First Layer: Smooth, consistent surfaces with well-connected extrusion lines across all test areas.
Gaps Between Lines: May indicate insufficient first-layer squish or under-extrusion.
Rough or Raised Surfaces: May indicate excessive first-layer squish or over-extrusion.
Poor Adhesion in Specific Areas: Check bed cleanliness, bed leveling, Z-offset, and temperature.
Different Results Across the Bed: May indicate an uneven build surface, bed mesh compensation issues, or inconsistent first-layer settings.
Why Use This Test?
A reliable first layer across the entire build plate is especially important when printing large objects or multiple models at once.
The First Layer Test – Full Bed helps you identify potential problems before wasting time and filament on larger prints.
