Phenyl glycidyl ether molecular model (C9H10O2, CAS 122-60-1): a free, print-ready ball-and-stick model with the element symbol engraved on every atom, designed for chemistry lessons.
Let the group sketch what they see in Phenyl glycidyl ether, namely two rings (one 3-membered and one 6-membered), one of them aromatic; afterwards they compare the sketch with the 22 bonds on the model (16 single and 6 aromatic, drawn in Kekulé form). A five-minute warm-up: read the symbol on every sphere and write down the totals (9 C + 10 H + 2 O = 21 atoms). Teachers covering aromaticity and delocalised electrons, chirality, enantiomers and CIP (R/S) rules, as well as ring strain in three-membered rings will find it a concrete example. Team task: with the model in hand, each group marks the epoxide ring (three-membered C-O-C ring) and the ether linkage (C-O-C), then writes down what they found. Phenyl glycidyl ether brings one stereocentre without an assigned R/S label: a good prompt for discussing enantiomers.
Printing: the STL is in angstrom units - scale it 10x in the slicer (1 angstrom = 10 mm). Use supports under the bonds; PLA works well.
