The Sun of Circlewood

Before the first bird sings in Circlewood, a tiny door opens among the roots of the sun. Through it slips the morning’s first golden thread, climbing the winding branches until it reaches the roses at its heart.

The largest rose opens first. Its petals hold the warmth that will wake the forest: a little for the sleeping fox beneath the oak, a little for the mushrooms beside the crooked path, and a little for every flower still bowed beneath the dew. As the smaller roses awaken, sunlight spreads through the pale, petal-shaped arches and out along the curling rays.

During the night, the Moon of Circlewood has been gathering tired dreams and gently mending them. At dawn, it leaves those dreams beside the sun’s little door. There, among the green leaves and pink blossoms, they receive enough courage to become beginnings.

This is why the forest’s inhabitants always look up before starting their day. Somewhere above the treetops, a rose has opened for them.
