Description

Triglycidyl isocyanurate (C12H15N3O6, CAS 2451-62-9) — a free educational 3D molecular model for teachers and students, by MolGod.org. Element symbols are cut into each atom sphere: a self-labelled teaching aid.

Turn the model in your hand to see the shape of Triglycidyl isocyanurate: four rings (three 3-membered and one 6-membered), and 39 bonds in total (36 single and 3 double). Quick starter: ask students to count the engraved symbols (12 C + 15 H + 3 N + 6 O) and check that they add up to 36 atoms and the formula C12H15N3O6. On the printed model, students can point to the isocyanurate ring (six-membered ring of alternating N atoms and C=O groups) and the three epoxide rings (three-membered C-O-C ring). Triglycidyl isocyanurate brings three stereocentres without an assigned R/S label: a good prompt for discussing enantiomers. Topics it supports in class: chirality, enantiomers and CIP (R/S) rules, the carbonyl group (C=O), as well as ring strain in three-membered rings.

MolGod.org publishes its molecular models free of charge for teachers and students. Teachers: the engraved symbols let students work with the model without a separate key.

A ball-and-stick model of Triglycidyl isocyanurate with each element symbol recessed into its atom sphere, generated by MolGod.org from a PubChem-computed 3D conformer (not an experimental crystal structure); atomic coordinates and connectivity are unchanged. STL mesh: 465,186 triangles, closed (watertight) single solid. Coordinates in ångström (STL stores no unit) — scale the model deliberately in your slicer.

Names in other languages: Triglycidylisocyanurat (de); Triglycidylisocyanuraat (nl).
