Vesperwick — Essence of the Last October Night

🎃 Vesperwick — Essence of the Last October Night 🦇

Some bottles hold potions. This one holds the evening you wished would never end.

📖 The Story

At the edge of a sleeping village stood a little apothecary that opened only after the last pumpkin lantern had been lit.

Its keeper never sold remedies for ordinary things. On her shelves were forgotten dreams, unfinished goodbyes, and the courage to knock on an unfamiliar door.

But every October, she left one space empty.

There she placed Vesperwick.

With its pumpkin-shaped body, curling stem, and bat-wing handle, the vessel waited beside an open window. No recipe lay beneath it. Nothing simmered on the stove.

Instead, the keeper gathered what the night left behind.

The warmth of a lantern after its candle had gone out.

The rustle of leaves following the last child home.

A little laughter caught beneath a crooked witch’s hat.

Drop by drop, she collected an October evening.

Then, just before dawn, she pressed the stopper into place.

Winter would come. The pumpkins would soften, the branches would empty, and the village would put its costumes away.

But on the coldest evenings, when darkness reached the windows far too early, the keeper would loosen Vesperwick’s little pumpkin stopper.

And somewhere in the quiet shop, a dry leaf would turn across the floor.
