Modular Rocket Ship – A Home Beyond Earth
Our vision for this contest started with the idea that, in the future, homes might not be fixed in one place. They could be moved when disasters strike or resources become scarce. That led us to imagine a home designed for life beyond Earth!
Introducing our Modular Rocket House, a 3D-printed space playset that can grow to suit your mission. Choose just one room capsule or print as many as you like to build your own custom space home!
We wanted to make our design functional as well as fun, so we turned it into a fully equipped playhouse, complete with two astronauts, furniture, sliding doors, a telescope, a control panel and a space vehicle for planetary adventures.
The model pictured with our 8-year-old assistant designer stands just short of 60 cm tall!
We designed the model in Tinkercad with plenty of prototyping along the way. It took a fair bit of experimenting to bring our ideas to life, but we had a fantastic time doing it together.
We've also included Canva files created by my son for the backgrounds in each room. These need to be printed separately in 2D and added to personalise your space home.
Our goal was to create more than a rocket. We wanted to build a little world where children can imagine what future homes might look like, explore life in space and dream up their own missions.
One rocket. Endless rooms. A whole universe of possibilities!
